Time for chili
The Titusville Noon and Sunrise Rotary Clubs holds their 6th annual chili cook-off at the Titusville Chamber’s annual street party Feb. 26 in downtown Titusville from 6-9 p.m. Chili tasting is $5 for 10 tickets. As well as chili sampling, guests can enjoy live entertainment, dance performances, kids activities and more.

Get car washed for a cause

The THS Key is involved in many Titusville community service projects including ringing the bell for Salvation Army, Apollo Elementary outdoor clean up,Titusville citrus gleaning, Respite Night at the Children’s Center and the Kiwanis Family Fun Fest.
Key Club International is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others.

Meet the conductor
The North Guild of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra hosts a brunch buffet and conversation with Christopher Confessore, BSO music director and principal conductor, March 5, 10 a.m., at Pumpernickel’s Fest Haus in Titusville . This annual event provides an opportunity for BSO patrons and community members to meet with the conductor and other guests in an informal setting.
A special guest will be Terrence Wilson, a pianist who will perform with the orchestra during its “Symphonic Tributes” concert on March 6 at the King Center in Melbourne .

The North Guild of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra hosts its third annual “Evening on the Italian Riviera” Feb. 21, at Portofino Italian Grill, 3350 South Washington Avenue in Titusville.
All proceeds from this special fund-raising event will benefit the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. The public is invited.
The social hour with a cash bar begins at 5 p.m., and the sit-down dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The menu will include Italian entrees that are specialties of the restaurant. Wine will be served with dinner.

Play ball
Back to Basics Basketball is a co-ed, non-competitive, fun learning experience for boys and girls ages 5 through 12 years old. Players ages 5 to 8 will practice on Mondays and Wednesdays; those aged 9 to 12 will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The league will play for seven weeks.

Learn boating
The Coast Guard Auxiliary offers a boating safety class the last Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m at the Upland Building, Sand Point Park in Titusville. Participants learn federal and state boating requirements, receive a Florida boater ID card and the students qualify to join the auxiliary and receive boating education discounts. Parents have web site
Brevard Public Schools announces a Web site that provides information and resources to help parents and school communities understand the Center for Disease Control and the Florida Department of Health’s recommendations for influenza during the 2009-10 school year.
The site may be accessed by going to www.brevardschools.org and clicking on the link on the home page that says “H1N1 Swine Flu Communications for BPS Parents and School Community.” Information on this site will be updated as new data becomes available.

The Central Brevard Humane Society’s new state-of-the-art “low cost” spay/neuter & wellness clinic is now open. This facility is located directly behind the shelter at 1020 Cox Road in Cocoa. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Services include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, heartworm prevention, flea and tick treatment programs and microchipping.

Kids get into nature
The Central Area of Brevard County Parks and Recreation sponsors Nature Nuggets, a nature class for 3- to 5-year-olds that includes story time, crafts, songs, puppets and fun.
Nature Nuggets is offered the first and third Tuesday of each month at Rotary Park on Merritt Island at 9:30 a.m. 10:45 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Teens have fun
The Teen Warehouse is a place for teens in grades 7-12 to hang out with friends and have a safe, fun time at Tom Statham Park Community Center, 7101 South U.S. Highway 1, in Bellwood, south of Titusville. The center is open Mondays through Thursdays from 4-8 p.m. and on Fridays from 4-9 p.m., with Saturday activities as announced. There is no fee for drop-in activities, however, fees may be charged for special events as announced in the future.

Vets get help
Veterans who’ve served in Iraq, Afghanistan and have medical problems that require care by the Veterans Administration or have service-connected disabilities that might qualify for compensation, should contact the Disabled American Veterans, Inc., Chapter 109. Drivers needed
The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program seeks volunteer coordinators throughout the county to coordinate transportation schedules for cancer patients undergoing treatment. Many patients have no alternative way to get to their treatments. The program offers patients free rides.

Motorcyclists ride monthly
The Titusville chapter of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association hold its monthly meeting on the fourth Sunday of the month at Whistle Junction, 3125 Columbia Blvd. (SR-405) in Titusville It begins at 8 a.m. for breakfast and is followed by the meeting at 9 a.m. The club encourages any motorcycle enthusiasts to come by and meet them. They also hold a “kick tire” every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
